Synthetic and natural materials in bioengineering & biomedicine

Workshop in Englisch

New biomedical technologies are driven both by the discovery of active entities (whether a drug molecule or stem cells) and by the design of new techniques to encapsulate, target, and deliver them in the body. In our lab, we work on the design of tailored and controllable biomaterials for drug delivery, for cell encapsulation, and for bioprinting. We combine synthetic and natural biomaterials to tune how our materials flow, gelify, and degrade. During the workshop, you will discover some examples of polymer hydrogels, see how they are made, and fabricate your own hydrogels containing model cells and model drugs. You will also see how we engineer bacteria to make living building materials, in other words biological concrete.
