How organisms work: The interplay of DNA, proteins and metabolites

Guided tour in English

Understanding how vital functions in organisms work requires state-of-the-art analytical equipment and methods. In the guided tour of the Functional Genomic Center Zurich (FGCZ) you will learn by practical examples how the analytical special laboratory determines gene sequences or analyzes molecules and proteins with the latest technology. You will get to know the mode of operation and application of the latest technologies of the sequencers and mass spectrometers used. For children we offer a handicraft program during the tour.

In the fascinating interplay of life, the interactions between DNA, RNA, proteins and metabolites direct the complex processes that control the functions of living organisms. These molecular players form the foundation of the cellular machinery and guide the synthesis, regulation and execution of all vital functions. Deciphering these components and their interactions is the primary goal of the FGCZ. In collaboration with national and international research groups and with the help of the latest analytical technologies, the FGCZ makes an important contribution to biomedical research.
