When mountains start to move
The Blatten landslide in May 2025 shocked Switzerland. Millions of cubic metres of rock, ice and debris thundered into the valley, burying large parts of the village. But how can we predict how far these masses will flow, and why?
In this workshop, you will discover how researchers at ETH Zurich, WSL and other institutions around the world study landslides, debris flows and avalanches. Their goal is to better understand these natural hazards, assess risks more accurately and improve early warning systems.
Become a researcher yourself: Build a LEGO seismometer, record ground vibrations and discover how these measurements can help detect landslides at an early stage and make warning systems more effective.
