Once upon a time, there was a fairy tale that was constantly being reinvented. That’s how the story of MAGIE (Fairy Tales as Points of Reference for Shaping Individual Development Patterns) might begin. Because the MAGIE project keeps fairy tales alive and retells them again and again:

During “MAGIE Storytime,” we read modern adaptations of fairy tales such as Hansel and Gretel or Prince Fairyfoot and invite children and adults alike to immerse themselves in these fantastical narrative worlds.

In the “MAGIE Workshop Report,” we demonstrate how fairy tales can be reimagined, adapted, and linguistically refined using our MAGIE AI Fairy Tale Generator. In doing so, we ask: Which characters, motifs, and values belong in today’s fairy tales? Where is there a need for diversity, child-friendly language, and pedagogical care?

Whether they’re modern adaptations of classics or newly generated stories, these fairy tales emerge from the interplay of developmental psychology, cultural and fairy-tale knowledge, participatory idea generation, and AI. Visitors gain insights into the creative and scientific process behind MAGIE and learn how AI can be used as a tool for narrative education, language, creativity, and citizen science.
