In our workshop, we invite you to become part of the research yourself: Using video recordings of people/participants gaming–so-called naturally occurring data–we investigate how our interaction with virtual animals or being a virtual animal manifests itself in a multimodal way (linguistically, but also through gestures, facial expressions, body posture). In this way, we hope to gain an insight into the playful interaction with virtual animals, which also reveals a lot about our attitude towards animals in general.
This interactive workshop will provide an introduction to the topic and give you the opportunity to try out different games on different platforms. These include games in which animals play the main role, such as in the classic role as hunting game (The Hunter: Call of the Wild), as cheeky geese (The Untitled Goose Game) or with a man-eating creature as a counterpart (The Last Guardian). This workshop is conducted in cooperation with the VR experience BATVISION, which emerged from a ZHdK project, and which can be experienced on site. It allows you to embody a bat and experience the world from its unique perspective.
