Every person’s cancer is different. Even tumors that look similar under the microscope can respond very differently to the same treatment, depending on their biology and the healthy cells around them. So how can doctors know which therapy is most likely to work? Researchers are growing miniature tumor models – called tumoroids – in the lab to find answers. These “patient avatars” can be used to test therapies before they are given to patients. The aim is more precise, effective and patient-centered cancer care.
