Swissloop – The Future Races Through the Tube
From Zurich to Barcelona in an hour—without a plane? Students at ETH Zurich are working on exactly that and, as part of the Swissloop project, are developing a levitating pod for the transportation technology of the future.
Hyperloop is considered one of the most revolutionary transportation technologies of our time: Passengers and cargo could one day travel between cities at speeds exceeding 1,000 km/h—faster than any airplane, quieter than any train, and using a fraction of the energy.
Swissloop is the Hyperloop student team at ETH Zurich. We are developing a prototype pod that glides through a vacuum-sealed tube, propelled by electromagnets and guided by intelligent control systems.
Our team consists of mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, and computer science students from ETH Zurich who are working together on the mobility of tomorrow. Every subsystem—from the propulsion system to the levitation system to the control software—is developed and built entirely by students. The project is thus not only pioneering technological work but also a valuable contribution to the hands-on training of tomorrow’s engineers. Every year at European Hyperloop Week, we compete against the best student teams from around the world. This competition drives us to continuously advance our technology while making a real contribution to the future of transportation.
Be sure to also come to our booth, where we’ll show you our Pod and will be happy to answer your questions.
