One of the crucial challenges for humanity is to develop clean sources of energy that are available to all and compatible with sustainable development. Nuclear fusion is the energy source of the sun and the other stars. It has enormous potential to help us meet this challenge. Moreover, research into nuclear fusion is a virtuous example of global cooperation in science. The pinnacle of which is ITER, the project that aims to demonstrate its scientific and technological feasibility. The last leg of the research journey we are embarking on is the development of fusion power plants that might one day supply electricity from renewable energy.
