New approaches are needed to promote the responsible use of cannabis. The pilot study “Züri Can – Cannabis with Responsibility”, conducted by the City of Zurich and the University of Zurich, therefore examines the effects of obtaining cannabis products from controlled cultivation under regulated conditions on participants’ consumption and health, and explores regulatory issues.

As part of the pilot study, up to 3,000 participants can legally purchase Swiss organic-quality cannabis at 20 different retail locations in Zurich. These locations also include 9 social clubs. In addition to purchasing cannabis products, social clubs offer the opportunity to consume the purchased cannabis on-site and interact with other users.
