Lichtmikroskopische Aufnahme vom Holz der Ulme

Wood is very familiar to us, as we have been using it as a building material, for furniture, or in the form of paper for a long time. Its aesthetics and fantastic properties make it so popular. As a renewable and CO2-sequestering resource, wood can even play a much larger role in the future.

During the tour, you will get to know wood in a variety of surprising facets. You will learn more about the fascinating structure and excellent mechanical properties of wood. Through demonstration objects, we will show you that wood can achieve even better mechanical properties after treatment, or that the wood surface can be made electrically conductive using a laser, allowing it to be used as a sensor or touch panel.

Gain new insights into the well-known material wood on our 45-minute guided tour through the laboratories of the Chair of Wood Materials Science in the new HIF building.
