Guided tour in German

Did you ever want to have a look in to a laboratory where researchers conduct their biochemical, molecular biology and cell biological experiments? On our tour, you will get an impression of the lab as working place. In a Molecular Biology Lab you will see how a PCR machine looks like, which is for example used to diagnose genetic diseases and viral infections. We will show you as well, where bacterial cultures are grown and proteins and RNAs are purified.

The second station of the tour is the visit of the high field NMR laboratory of the Department of Biology. NMR is a method to characterize molecules which is based on the same physical principle as MRI, and the molecules go into a tube as well for NMR. ETH researchers contributed significantly to the development of these methods, which was also honored in the form of two Nobel prizes awarded.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Part of the tour is the visit of a high field NMR laboratory, and is not suited for persons with pacemakers, magnetic implants or other persons which should not expose themselves to strong magnetic fields.
