Surgical treatment is increasingly being shaped by technologies such as augmented reality, artificial intelligence (AI) and robotics. The development of surgical innovations requires researchers and experts from many different disciplines, such as medicine, computer science, physics, product design and robotics. The OR-X is an open-access center for surgical research and training that combines a highly realistic surgical infrastructure with cutting-edge technology. It provides an ideal environment for all these researchers to work in an interdisciplinary way, bringing together the diverse world of science.

Supporting surgical training

Thanks to the OR-X, surgical training and education can happen without patient involvement. Aspiring surgeons can develop their practical-surgical skills by practicing surgical procedures with real instruments and realistic anatomy in a safe and pressure-free environment.

Advancing surgical research

The OR-X research facility makes it possible to explore the surgery of the future. Cutting-edge technologies from the fields of computer science, robotics and artificial intelligence are integrated into the OR-X and connected by a high-performance network.

Surgical innovation for the benefit of patients

The OR-X enables the conduction of extensive ex-vivo validation experiments by providing the necessary surgical and experimental infrastructure. In this way, it promotes the efficient and successful translation of prototypes into clinical practice.

At Scientifica, you can see how augmented reality and other technologies are being used in surgery, and you can virtually explore our state-of-the-art operating room via large interactive panels. Our OR-X team is here to provide you with insightful answers and to start discussions about the present and future of surgery.
