Innovation for sustainable development

Sustainability is being increasingly seen as a technical challenge. Whether for the issue of food waste, the recycling of waste or the production of clean drinking water, new solutions are emerging through the use of innovative technologies.

Our world is facing major challenges that require innovative solutions – both locally and globally. What contribution can digital technologies make to prevent food waste? How can the global population be supplied with clean drinking water? And what innovative approaches are there to recycle waste and close nutrient cycles?

At our collaborative booth of the ETH for Development (ETH4D) initiative and the World Food System Center of ETH Zurich, we will show a variety of current projects from the fields of agricultural, food and water supply research that contribute to global sustainable development in both “natural” and “artificial” ways.

At our booth, you can test an app that keeps food fresh longer in your home refrigerator or experience how drinking water is treated in the Global South with the help of low-cost technologies. We will show you how researchers extract natural antioxidants from supposed waste from olive oil production, which can then be added to foods or cosmetics. In addition, you will be able to create a sustainable circular economy yourself using a 3D model.

We look forward to seeing you and discussing how research and technology can contribute to a more sustainable future for us and our planet.
