Diving into net-zero Switzerland with augmented reality

Switzerland should emit virtually no greenhouse gases by 2050. This goal will be achieved through a variety of measures in all sectors – from mobility to energy supply to agriculture. Immerse yourself in the vision of a net-zero energy system for Switzerland using augmented reality.

The on-site augmented reality platform shows two versions of Switzerland: today and 2050. Today’s energy system is dominated by fossil oil and gas. These provide energy for heating buildings, for industry and above all for road transport. In addition, a good third of our electricity demand is covered by nuclear power plants.

2050 looks very different: We will see photovoltaics (PV) everywhere, on building facades, on roofs, in agriculture or the Alps. Wind turbines will stand on mountain ranges to supply additional electricity. Hydroelectric power plants have been renovated and new ones built. All these changes carefully balance energy needs, environmental protection and conservation of natural resources.

The heating needs of our buildings are met by heat pumps and geothermal and solar thermal energy. Biogas will be produced through better use of resources such as organic waste. Our transport system is being completely converted to electric vehicles, with some heavy-duty vehicles using hydrogen fuel cells.
