Quantum light from quantum dots
Light is wonderful. It drives life on earth, travels at record (light) speed, and sunlight can sometimes even make us happy. But what is light made of? And how can it help shape the technologies of the future?
In this hands-on workshop, you will explore the fascinating world of light through a series of interactive experiments. Measure the colour of light, discover that light consists of tiny particles called photons, and learn how scientists can detect and count them. You will also meet quantum dots – tiny crystals that can emit individual photons and could become one of the key building blocks for future quantum technologies, from secure communication to powerful quantum computers.
Our brief journey will take us from colorful chemistry to quantum technology. And jointly, we will approach cutting-edge research questions in a playful and accessible manner.
The workshop takes place in englisch; Questions can also be posed in german.
