Mit Imkerei die Welt zusammenhalten
Dr. des. Aline von Atzigen, UZH
Lecture in German
We present a particular form of beekeeping – migratory beekeeping – from the perspective of ethnology in three different regions of the world: the lavender fields of Provence, the rape fields of southwest China and the dry forests of eastern Bolivia. Beekeeping differs in all regions of the world as it adapts to cultural and agricultural characteristics. Nevertheless, the three examples presented have many things in common – for example, how beekeepers care for their bees, protect them from diseases or how they adapt their everyday life and work to the rhythm of the bees.
The speakers will discuss with the audience what beekeeping practices and bee knowledge in South America, Asia and Europe have in common and what they have to do with each and every one of us – for example, in terms of nutrition and the protection of ecological diversity.
