Exploring Gravity: Unveiling Earth’s Mysteries from Space
The apple that falls from the tree is just as subject to gravity as the planets that orbit the sun. Thanks to satellites, we are now able to measure gravity accurately.
Every time we take a step, jump, or drop something, we experience the force that keeps us grounded: gravity. But did you know that gravity is not just a force we experience on the surface? It extends far beyond, reaching the depths of space. In fact, thanks to the incredible capabilities of satellites, we are able to not only understand but also measure the gravity of Earth.
The force of gravity underpins every aspect of our world and holds it together. One of these aspects is the large-scale change in our environment, both natural and anthropogenic. Space geodesy, the field of measuring properties of the Earth from space using various techniques such as satellite gravimetry, is crucial in understanding the mentioned environmental changes. At our booth at Scientifica we explore the contribution of space geodesy, and in particular satellite gravimetry, to the analysis of our environment.
