Neue Erkenntnisse bei seltenen Krankheiten durch KI

How artificial intelligence can help treat rare diseases
Science Café in German

Only a few of the approximately 7,000 rare disease types are currently already medically researched. This is a particular challenge for people suffering from rare diseases and for their environment. On the one hand, it usually takes a long time until a diagnosis is available at all. On the other hand, there are usually only a few treatment methods available, which are also often associated with high costs.

Artificial intelligence is capable of evaluating large amounts of data reliably and efficiently and thus arriving at new insights. The potential areas of application in medicine are immense and range from diagnostics and therapy to the development of new treatment methods. This panel discussion will explore the question of how AI can improve the situation of individuals with rare diseases. In addition, selected legal and ethical issues that arise when AI is used in medicine will be discussed.
