Soils tell stories – if you know how to read them

Soils hold clues about the past, present and future of our planet. As a diverse foundation of life on Earth, they vary greatly across the globe. Understanding them is key to addressing global environmental challenges.

More

Soils are much more than dirt beneath our feet. They support life, provide our food and filter our water. If you know how to read them, soils also hold fascinating clues about our environment’s past and future.

At our booth, we invite you to discover soils from all around the world – from the tropics to the Arctic and high Alpine peaks – and to learn how to decode the stories they tell. You can get hands-on with the tools used to study soils, look through a microscope to explore their hidden structures up close and figure out which soils would be best to grow vegetables in your garden: the red soils of the tropics or the dark soils of the Arctic?

Feeling creative? Create your own artwork using modelling clay and paint in the different colors of our soils, as a beautiful reminder of the amazing world beneath your feet.
