Terekty is not just the name of a river in Central Asia. Terekty is also the name of a scientific travel and expedition documentary film. It takes you to the remote high mountains of Kyrgyzstan, where an international expedition team is following the glaciers of the Tian Shan – retracing the steps of a research expedition that took place over 120 years ago. Set against a backdrop of rugged peaks, icy nights and spectacular landscapes, the film impressively combines adventure and science.

Together with mountain guide Martin Kaiser, Kyrgyz partners and a research team from ETH Zurich, you’ll experience first-hand how modern drone technology, historical photographs and field research paint a dramatic picture of our changing world. This is about far more than melting ice: it’s about water, the future of entire regions and the question of what responsibility we bear for our planet.
