Join us for Zurich\u2019s first Poohstick Championship. The rules are simple: Whose stick floats under a bridge the fastest? The game was invented in the children\u2019s book Winnie the Pooh and is enjoyed all over the world. Scientists use the same method to estimate the velocity water.<\/p>\n

Why is this important? Water volume and flow velocity are key indicators of the state of the water balance. The tour along Zurich\u2019s Schanzengraben combines these two aspects in a fun way: Compete for the title at Zurich\u2019s first Poohstick Championship and learn about the importance of managing flowing water for the city and the environment. The event is suitable for children and adults; sticks will be provided (and fished out of the water again after the event).<\/p>\n

Anyone who wants to learn more about water in Zurich\u2019 can do so on their own with the audio tour \u201cHow Water Shapes the City of Zurich.\u201d On an excursion across Zurich, you\u2019ll learn, among other things, how people bathed in Zurich during Roman times, how the drinking water and sewage systems work, and where in the city electricity is generated from hydropower.<\/p>\n
