Staying resilient – How do we consume information in digital times?
Thanks to digitalization, we can communicate more self-determinedly, network globally, and form new communities. But it can also be difficult to navigate through the abundance of content, to distinguish serious from dubious sources, or to find balanced, high-quality information
Digitalization has given us many new opportunities to inform ourselves. But are we sufficiently prepared to deal with these possibilities adequately? How can we safely navigate the flood of news and platforms? How do we as users and as a society deal with digital threats such as “fake news” or hate speech?
At fög – Research Center for the Public Sphere and Society and at the Department of Communication and Media Research (IKMZ) we focus on the following questions, among others:
- Through which media do we obtain our information, what kind of information do we use and how do we process it?
- How resilient are we as individuals and as a society against digital threats?
- How can we support and promote media literacy in society?
At our booth you will find information about our research and projects and can play games to test your knowledge about media and your media consumption. In three different computer games, you can actively defend yourself as a restaurant owner in a made-up scenario against fake news or try to spread it. Take a quiz to find out what you know about the media system in Switzerland. Or you can walk up a decision tree to find out how well equipped you are to deal with media challenges.
