Data donations: How Your Data Advances Research
In our digitized world, digital trace data are a valuable commodity. In most cases, however, only the companies that collect them can use and analyze these data. Therefore, to draw scientific findings from the digital trace data for the benefit of society, research is dependent on data donations.
Science could gain many important insights from the digital traces left behind by users of digital devices and services. Such data can be used to draw conclusions about behavior such as consumer habits, media usage patterns or opinion formation. However, since these data are very valuable to the companies that collect them, scientific analysis of digital trace data is often not possible. However, users, as owners of their own data, can change this.
Therefore, take advantage of the possibility to request your own data from the companies and make it available for academic research – or in other words: donate your data for research. The Data Donation Lab at the University of Zurich has developed a platform that makes donating personal data easy, secure, and transparent.
At our booth you will learn how a data donation works, what happens to your donated data and how you can personally contribute to scientific research. You will have the opportunity to try out the data donation process for yourself in three easy steps. Choose between two current studies and learn more about your media use and your health in the process.
